Chapter 1
From an idea to our own roastery
My name is Francesco Serra and I am the owner and founder of Torrefazione Caffè Chriss in Vibo Valentia, Calabria – one of the most beautiful coastal regions in southern Italy.
My company’s story began in 2004.
After many years working as a surveyor in the construction sector, travelling to numerous cities in northern and central Italy and abroad, I decided to fulfil a personal dream: I wanted to understand, from the ground up, something that had always fascinated me – the wonderful world of coffee.

The fascination of a single cup of coffee
There is far more in a single cup of coffee than first meets the eye.
Whether it starts your morning, accompanies your day on its own or as a cappuccino, espresso, Americano or another preparation – coffee is much more than a drink.
Every cup brings together work, tradition and culture from many parts of the world.
Often, our day only truly begins after the first good coffee. That moment holds pleasure, a change of mood and sometimes even the day’s small and big decisions. From early morning until late at night, coffee is a companion around the world – a spark, a comfort, a habit and a little piece of a life well lived.
Let’s be honest: Without coffee, not much gets going – with coffee, so much does.
Chapter 3
Our first steps into the world of roasting
This passion led me to explore coffee in greater depth and attend training courses with companies that import green coffee. There, I learned the fundamentals and began developing my first simple blends with a small roaster.
I soon realised that my family were not the only ones who enjoyed the results. Relatives and friends also greatly appreciated the quality and flavour of my coffee blends. At that very moment, I understood that curiosity and passion could grow into something bigger.
That was when I decided I wanted to become a professional coffee roaster.
Chapter 4
An artisan roastery with character
I founded a small coffee roastery and equipped it with the machinery needed for professional production that remained deliberately artisanal. For our blends, we source different varieties of green coffee – both Arabica and Robusta – from Central and South America, Africa and countries in the East, through importers in the Italian port cities of Trieste and Genoa.
From the outset, my business philosophy was clear, and it remains so today:
To craft coffee for a discerning niche market – never industrially, but with care, careful selection and personality.
Chapter 5
Family, support and a shared passion
Throughout this journey, my wonderful wife Larisa was always by my side.
She comes from Riga in Latvia and fell in love not only with me, but also with the fascinating world of coffee.
Together with our two children, Cristian and Giulia, who are both studying, we take care of producing and packaging our treasured blends. Our coffee’s name, Chriss, is inspired by our son Cristian. The name Julì, which we chose for a café currently closed temporarily for renovation, also comes from our daughter Giulia.
For us, Caffè Chriss is therefore more than a product; it is a true family endeavour.

Chapter 6
From local sales to beyond our borders
Sales of our various coffee blends – together with pods and compatible capsules – began locally.
Over time, shipping allowed our products to reach many cities in northern Italy and other European countries.
Our blends are suitable for espresso machines in cafés, restaurants and offices, as well as for enjoying at home in smaller quantities, as many families do.
With every delivery, not only did our reach grow, but so did our joy in connecting with people through our coffee.
Chapter 7
The journey to Austria
The joy of discovering new places and meeting people eventually brought me to Austria too.
At the invitation of Anthony Mugavero, a long-standing friend I have known for many years who lives in Kitzbühel, we developed the idea of building an online sales platform with a warehouse in Austria together.
This allows us to bring our coffee blends even closer to our customers, while taking our Italian coffee culture a step further into the world.

Today, we offer you our blends with a distinctly Mediterranean flavour – created through careful selection and skilful blending of high-quality Arabica and Robusta coffees.
Every blend reflects our experience, our passion and our commitment to quality.
